How about a N.T. wide competition to design a 55 cent postage stamp commemorating the events of 1860 and 1862 (1860 - attaining the Centre; 1862 - the successful crossing of the continent & safe return by Europeans). This could be released in 2012, and as a 55 cent unit, would be widely used throughought Australia.

I think a competition to see who can grow the most 'JMS like beard' would be great as a fundraiser for RFDS or something similar. Participants could post photos online (perhaps this site) as a progress update and local businesses could donate prizes.... Kind of like Movember but a full blown explorer beard! There could be a judging by the public in town in Alice Plaza which could also act as publicity for other JMS events.
