On the 23 April, Stuart and Kekwick climbed to the top of the mountain now called Central Mount Stuart, leaving a message in a bottle.

These five photographs were taken at the centenary celebrations of Stuart’s passing through Central Australia in 1860. The speaker is Deputy Prime Minister John McEwen at Central Mount Stuart on Saturday 23 April 1960. The band is from Papua.
